Doppelgängers (2024)
A monochromatic photo zine that explores the predicament of being in the same situation repeatedly, whether by chance or by choice.
Author's note: This zine is exhibited in 2025 ZINE YO! FEST organized by ZINE COOP, Hong Kong's first collective and platform of zine culture that is founded in 2017. To know more about the complete creative process of the zine, please read the deep dive here.
Doppelgängers is a photo zine that explores stagnation in life, where familiar events happen repeatedly whether by chance or by unconscious choices. With sequenced diptychs and monochromatic surreal illustrations, the zine is my raw realization on life, that repetition is not always destined, but sometimes the complicity yet to be discovered.

Originally the idea was formed in 2023 as an experiment in sequencing – instead of following the conventional emphasis on contrast, it stems from a simple question ‘what if repetition is the theme?’ Featuring pairs of photos that share unplanned compositional similarities regardless of time and place taken, and accompanied by dreamlike illustration, the zine is a visual metaphor of repeating events in life and lets readers focus on forms and rhythms, and contrasts of reality and subconscious loops.
